From an Empty Floor to a Working RMU Factory

The Issue:

A switchgear manufacturer was setting up a new facility of about 10,000 m² to manufacture Ring Main Units (RMUs). The sheet metal fabrication machines were installed, but there was no production infrastructure: no assembly lines, no workstations, no storage, and no system to move parts and enclosures between fabrication and assembly.

The client needed a complete, lean production setup designed and delivered quickly so manufacturing could begin.

Suggested Solution:

  • Assembly lines and roller conveyors for RMU assembly
  • Ergonomic multi-level workstations for sub-assembly
  • Supply trolleys and ton trolleys that deliver material to the line and from the line.
  • Dedicated trolleys for sheet metal parts, panel doors and enclosures
  • Kitting carts that bring components to each operator’s point of use
  • Pallet racking for raw material and component storage

Design:

ADAPTIV managed the full cycle: site visit, needs analysis, engineering drawings, manufacturing, and on-site installation. Every station was designed around the client’s RMU assembly process and the material flow from fabrication to final assembly.

Results in Numbers:

  • Area equipped: ≈ 10,000 m²
  • Project duration: 5 months from first engagement to handover
  • On-site installation: 3 months
  • Workstations: 16
  • Trolleys, flow racks and kitting carts: 130+
  • Assembly lines and conveyors: 2
  • Outcome: The client went from zero production to a fully operational RMU assembly facility

Customer Feedback:

"ADAPTIV took our new facility from an empty floor to a working production line in a few months. Their team understood our process, designed every station around it, and delivered a flexible setup we can adapt as we grow."
