Standardizing Assembly Trolleys

Identify the Issue:
An office furniture manufacturer was facing challenges in its office chair assembly area due to the large number of trolleys used to transport product components. Since the factory manufactures multiple chair models with significantly different parts, dedicated trolleys had been developed for each model. This resulted in a high number of trolley types, inefficient use of space, operational complexity, and difficulty maintaining a lean manufacturing environment
Suggested Solution:
ADAPTIV developed a standardized trolley system capable of supporting all chair models produced by the factory. A single trolley design was created for each assembly stage, accommodating all required components regardless of the chair model
Design:
A detailed assessment of the assembly process was conducted. Versatile trolleys were designed to suit all chair models, optimize space utilization, improve material flow, and support Lean Manufacturing and 5S principles.
What Did This Idea Solve?
The project reduced the number of trolley types from 15 different designs to only 7, simplifying operations by more than 50%, improving workplace organization, and enhancing Lean Manufacturing practices.
Customer Feedback:
The client's team expressed strong satisfaction with the implemented solution, highlighting improved organization, reduced complexity, and greater operational flexibility.
